Webster's Wine Bar

As an adult, I have become very fond of wine. So much so that it is honestly my preferred adult beverage (after margaritas of course). When I saw a deal for a wine bar close to my house, I jumped at the chance to sip on exotic wines from all over the world.

The Vibe

Webster's Wine Bar is located on Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square, right by the blue line stop. Once you step inside, you have the choice to choose your own seat: sit at the low couches in the window, the big easy chairs, the bar, or one of the high tables. My boyfriend and I opted for a high table, and eagerly looked over the menu to choose a glass of wine.

The vibe at Webster's Wine Bar is classy yet relaxed. Many diners casually chatted and enjoyed bottles of wine with friends. On the sunny weekday afternoon we stopped by, it was not super crowded, which made it feel more intimate throughout our meal.

The Food & Drinks

The drink menu at Webster's Wine Bar is quite extensive. Diners can choose wines by the glass including white wines, red wines, sparkling wines, rosé, sherry, as well as fortified and dessert wines. Those interested in sharing a bottle of wine have a tough decision as the bottled-wine section of the drink menu is even more extensive and broken up by type (sparkling, white, red, rosé) as well as country (French, Italian, Austrian, German, Spanish, Portugese, American, New Zealand, and even Swiss). If you are not a wine drinker, they also offer beer and cider by the bottle or on draft, as well as specialty cocktails.

The deal I found offered a glass of wine for two people and a meat & cheese plate to split. I prefer red wines, and went with a glass of an Italian red wine:  2013 Arianna Occhipinti ‘SP68' from Sicily. The description stated that it was ‘an expertly crafted blend of Frappato and Nero d'avila that has vitality and seductive nuance. Behind notes of lingonberry preserves, tarragon and geraniums, there is a scintillating acidity that compels another sip.' I can agree with every word of that, especially that part about another sip.

In addition to our glasses of wine, we got a Chef's Board to share, featuring three cheeses and three charcuterie (French for cooked, cured or smoked meats). For our cheeses we chose brie from France, five year aged gouda from Holland, and blue cheese from Wisconsin. For the charcuterie portion of the board we chose Smoking Goose Coppa, Duck Rillettes, and Tete de Cochon (meats from the head of a pig).

In addition to our cheese and meat, we received sweet jams, pickles, and some spicy mustard to top off our warm toasted bread. Everything was delicious. I made sure to vary each bite with a different meat, cheese, and jam  – the mix of savory, salty, and sweet was mouthwateringly good. Seriously, I may stop by tomorrow because just writing about it right now has me craving another bite!

While our deal was only good for the two glasses of wine and the Chef's Board, Webster's Wine Bar has plenty more to offer. On their menu they offer many interesting items such as salt cod croquettes, beets and blueberries as well as moroccan grilled chicken. Yum! For dessert, enjoy a piece of pie from Chicago's own Bang!Bang! Pie shop.
