Eaglewood Resort & Spa

A weekend getaway is always a welcome break from the usual couch-lounging. I got lucky enough recently to be surprised by my boyfriend with a getaway to Eaglewood Resort & Spa to celebrate our two year anniversary. The resort is located just 25 miles outside of Chicago, about a 45 minute drive from our apartment. I was excited to visit and start exploring after hearing about the spa, bowling alley, pool, and bars that they have available at the resort.

The Hotel

With our deal, we received a stay for two in a deluge king room. The resort features two large towers filled with junior suites, rooftop suites, deluxe rooms, and golf view rooms. Our deluxe room included:

  • Walk-out balcony
  • Flatscreen HD TV with cable channels
  • Large work desk
  • In room safe
  • iHome station
  • Wireless Internet
  • Terrycloth robes
  • Pillow-top mattresses

All rooms also feature room service with a special menu that include lunch, dinner, and late night options. Guests also can enjoy complimentary coffee daily in the main hall.

Dining Options

After checking out our hotel room, we decided to go swimming. Unfortunately, Myron had forgotten his swimming trunks, so we had to go out to buy him new ones. Fortunately for us, there are many stores and restaurants close by Eaglewood Resort & Spa. Since we were going to be out, we looked up restaurants in the area and saw that Portillo's was a 10 minute drive away. I have been to three different Portillo's and this location was my favorite, with old school booths and decorations like a 50s diner. In addition to Portillo's, the other close dining options include:

  • IHOP
  • Giordano's
  • Panera Bread
  • McDonalds
  • Subway
  • Dairy Queen
  • Culver's
  • Starbucks
  • Chiptole
  • Burger King

Fun Activities

After our brief shopping trip, we decided to try out the bowling alley. Guests of the resort pay $10 for each 30 minute interval including bowling shoes rental; outside visitors pay double that. We enjoyed a few beers while we played and danced along to the music. Tip: music is not free here but paying $5 will get you 12 songs, whereas $1 will just get you 2 on their digital jukebox.

After I beat Myron soundly in bowling (or maybe just once out of three games), we went for a dip in the pool. The water was too cold for us at first, so we relaxed in the hot tub, sauna, and steam room that are available before finally getting in. The pool was not busy while we were there, but we heard from a woman who owns a pool membership that it can get very busy during peak hours on the weekends.

That evening, we enjoyed drinks at Turnham's, one of the two restaurants at the resort. I sipped a glass of wine while Myron indulged in a hot toddy and nibbled a light dinner of wings and signature sliders.

The Spa

On the day of our arrival, we booked a couples massage for the following day after check out. The Spa at the resort features many services including massages, facials, manicures, and pedicures. Because Myron had never had a massage before, I was excited to share his first experience with him.

We arrived a few minutes before our appointment in order to give ourselves time to change and were greeted warmly by the receptionist. We each received a key to a locker and were led to our respective locker rooms, where we exchanged our clothes for a soft robe and slippers. Once dressed, we met to wait for our masseuses in the ‘Tranquility Room,' a dim-lit Japanese-inspired relaxation room with snacks, hot tea, and lemon flavored water.

Our 30 minute massages – which focused on the upper body, back, arms, and head only – were the perfect end to our weekend getaway. I felt the stress melt away as my masseuse expertly soothed my muscles. I did sneak a peek at Myron a few times, but could tell he felt the of the tension in his body massaged away. My only wish is that it could have lasted longer.

The Spa is highly recommended should you make the trip out to Eaglewood Resort & Spa. There are many options of services to choose from, all which aim at relaxing and restoring you. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and made sure to make us comfortable during our visit.

Eaglewood Resort & Spa is close enough to Chicago that you can get there quickly, but just far enough away for it feel like an escape. A stay for even just one night would make an excellent romantic date night, or a perfect family outing with the kids. With all the resort has to offer, including a golf course in the summer and the nearby entertainment, it would be silly not to book your next getaway today.
