Panang Curry

One of my favorite memories from college was going out to eat with my closest friends at a thai restaurant right on the edge of campus. There was something about the ambiance (super chill) and the food (super delicious) that allowed us to forget all the work we had to complete and just enjoy dinner together. Since moving to Chicago, I have been on the hunt for some tasty thai food to satisfy my craving. Lucky for me, I found a deal for a restaurant not too far from me. Hoping for the best, I bought it and headed there one night with my boyfriend in tow.

The Vibe

The restaurant sponsoring the deal was Siam Taste Noodle. Upon first glance, it is not a fancy place. Located close to the corner of Addison and Milwaukee, Siam Taste Noodle does provide free parking in a very small parking lot in the rear. However, I easily found free street parking right outside. We were the only customers when we arrived and were greeted by an older man who invited us to sit wherever we liked. The interior of the restaurant was small yet comfortable with standard decorations found in most thai restaurants – golden elephants, rainbow birds and pictures of temples.

The older man was our waiter and promptly brought us our menus and water, as well as our food once we had ordered.

The Food

In a nutshell – the food was absolutely delicious. Everything came out really fresh and fast! I LOVE crab ragoons and ordered some as an appetizer. They were hot, crispy, with a soft and creamy interior. Honestly, some of the best crab ragoons I have ever had. The sweet and sour sauce complimented it perfectly and they disappeared rather quickly.

My boyfriend and I both ordered panang curry as our main course. I have been a fan of the thai dish for quite some time, but this was Myron's first time trying it. The coconut flavor of the curry turned him into an immediate fan. The addition of chicken, green pepper, and fresh basil made it even more delicious. I was so sad when I saw the bottom of my bowl and realized it was gone.

The ‘taste' in Siam Taste Noodle must be short for tasty! If you are a fan of thai food, then you will love Siam Taste Noodle. It has been the only thai restaurant I have found in Chicago that serves authentic food that is fresh, not greasy, and yummy! I have become a long time customer from just this one visit and can't wait until my next craving hits.
